Interment Service for Dr. Michael Guido
7-18-09, 7:00 A.M., Metter, GA

In the beauty of this morning, we gather for the interment of our love one, brother, and dear friend, Michael Guido.

We, along with so many in Christendom, owe so much to Brother Michael.

He lived, taught, preached and showed to us Jesus Christ and His Gospel, the reality of prayer and the power of faith.

Let us join together in prayer thanking God again for His favor to us and asking for His guidance and comfort.
“Father, thank you for your presence and power.
Thank you for sharing Brother Michael Guido with us!
Thank you, Father, for showing to us what you can do with a person who is surrendered to you.

We ask for your continued ministry to Mrs. Audrey Guido, Brother and Mrs. Larry Guido, the staff, and the board members of the Guido Evangelistic Association.

Please give comfort, guidance and wisdom for today and for the future.

We humbly ask these requests with grateful hearts in Jesus’ name.” Amen

Brother Michael was a mentor to many.

He was more than a mentor to me…he was a spiritual father as well as a tremendous prayer partner.
I would call him on “Father’s Day” and wish him a “Happy Father’s Day”.

He would respond, “Oh, Robert, you are going to make me cry.”

Brother Michael lived Galatians 2:20 before us, revealing to us. “I have been crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live: yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I now live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”

A life guided by this truth produces Godly convictions, Godly character, Godly conduct, and Godly confidence.

1. His convictions

In 2 Timothy 2:12, the Apostle Paul said, “nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”
Likewise Brother Michael was not ashamed of his life in Christ. He knew Christ intimately, and he passionately wanted others to know Christ. He poured his life into anyone who was available especially ministers of the Gospel.

One day I asked Brother Michael what was the first thing he would do if he were going to pastor a church.

He responded, “I will tell you what I did when I began as pastor of a church in Florida. I checked out the salvation of all my staff and lay leaders and discovered half of them were lost…after I led them to the Lord we had a different church.”

He explicitly believed in Christ and lived by faith in Him and His word! Many times when asked about Brother Michael, I explained him as a modern day George Muller…one who lived by faith, the scripture and prayer.

His convictions were Godly, strong, and bold for Christ.

2. His character

“…The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.” Galatians 4:22-23,25
Paul continues… “If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”

For Brother Michael to live was Christ.

He was one of the most humble and gracious people I have ever known.

People loved to sit in his presence. Lila Williams, his personal secretary, said a common response of people after visiting with Brother Michael was “Now I know everything is going to be alright.”

Many times after introducing people to him they would privately respond, “Wow! What a blessing!”

People were touched by Christ’s presence in him.

His character was Christ-like.

3. His conduct

His conduct was all about Christ.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

Brother Michael lived so close to Christ Jesus that his behavior was like Jesus’ behavior…he was an evangelist. Only God knows the number of people who will be in heaven because of Brother Guido’s excellent work ethic, unwavering diligence, and countless sacrificial hours to introduce people to Christ. Brother Michael did not miss an opportunity to share the Gospel.

He shared this with me, during one of his Savannah hospitalizations, he was being rolled down a hall for a procedure, when he was stopped by a doctor who said to him, “Oh, Dr. Guido every morning as I am preparing for work I listen to your TV program. I am Buddhist, but I would like to be a Christian.”

Brother Michael said that he stopped everything and led her to Christ.

His conduct was to conduct people to Jesus!

4. His confidence

He was confident in life and in death.
His confidence in life can be seen in 2 Timothy 2:12 “For I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”

Revelation 14:13 declares his confidences in death.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they make rest from their labors, and their works follow the them.”

Our Brother’s confidence is being fulfilled now as never before.

I, along with you, can only imagine his joy as I think of the fulfillment of these scriptures in light of the labor Jesus Christ accomplished through His servant, Michael Guido.

His confidence in the Lord was compelling to so many.

Christ in Brother Guido’s convictions, character, conduct and confidence motivates each of us to examine our lives, our salvation, and our sanctification.

Do you know Christ personally?

Have you given your life to Christ believing in Him alone for your eternal salvation? If not why not surrender by placing your faith in Christ and surrender to Him now? Why not turn from your sin to Jesus today?

Believe in Jesus. John 3:16
Yield to the Father’s draw. John 6:44
Receive Jesus. John 1:12

If you are saved, are you fully surrendered to Christ?

If not, why not?

Why not completely surrender your life to Jesus now?

Let’s pray.

“Thank you Father for showing us what you can do with a person who is surrendered to You. May we never forget the life You shared with us through Brother Michael Guido. Help us daily to let Jesus live His life through us even as our Brother did.

I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
